What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that I am trained in. TCM is about 2500year-old , it’s a healing therapy from the East with its own diagnostics and treatment system that in many ways differs from the Western view of what causes disease and how to restore health.

Acupuncture is treated with needles. When I give treatments, I focus on creating balance in the body based on the principles of TCM. The whole person / body is treated and not just the symptoms. The purpose of acupuncture is to create a balance between Yin and Yang and to ensure that Qi (energy) can circulate freely, as well as in the right directions in the body’s energy pathways, also called the meridians.

Imbalances or blockages in the meridian pathways can cause pain or illness. When treating, thin, sterile disposable needles are used in selected acupuncture points around the entire body. The points are connected to the entire body via the meridian pathways. In doing so, the body is stimulated to restore balance.
